Prepared Data Base on Elementary Schools in Republic of Macedonia |
The overall goal of the project was to create conditions for updating and modernization of elementary education, in accordance with EU standards. The objective of the project was to provide data and information on all state elementary schools in Macedonia, from first to eight grade. The project achieved the following results: a produced data base on elementary schools in Republic of Macedonia, and reports with indicators from the data available in the data base. The target group of the project were students from state elementary schools, together with the school staff from these schools and the public. Direct beneficiaries were: Ministry of Education and Science (MES); Education Development Bureau (EDB); elementary schools (ES); AED/USAID; local self-governments units (LSUs). Indirect beneficiaries were donors, international structures and other actors involved in the sector of elementary education. Target area of the project was on national level, i.e. a data base was produced for all elementary schools in Republic of Macedonia. The following activities were realized with the project: preparatory meetings with AED and compliance with the manner for input to the questionnaires; receipt and checking of the previously filled out questionnaires by the elementary schools which were submitted to the office of the AED/PEP project; production of a structure for the data base in the programme Access – Unicode; presentation and acceptance of structure of the base by AED and MES; translation of the questionnaires from Macedonian and Albanian into English language; input of data from the questionnaires in the data base; checking and control of the input process; contacting elementary schools which have previously submitted incomplete questionnaires; coordination and consultations with AED and MON regarding issues not fully addressed in the questionnaires filled out by specific elementary schools; revision of the inputted data by AED; final submission of the data base. The draft data base was submitted to the office of PEP/AED on August 27th 2008. On the basis of the feedback from them, the same was upgraded and the final version was submitted on September 11th 2007. In the data input phase, the results from the processed questionnaires were presented once in fortnight before the representatives from AED/USAID and MES. The data base contains: general information on the school (name, address, contacts, number of teachers, etc.); requirements for renovation; data on ICT; information related to mathematics and natural sciences; and issues related to evaluation. In the base, data from 472 elementary schools were processed (over 90% from the total number of elementary schools). The time period for implementation of the project was May 29th – October 30th 2007. The direct financial costs of the project amounted to 37,026.50 MKD.
