Preparations for Water Supply in Jegunovce Municipality PDF Print E-mail

The municipality of Jegunovce is a rural municipality located in the north-western part of Macedonia. Today, the municipality of Jegunovce is comprised of two former municipalities: Jegunovce and Vratnica, with 10,790 residents. Most of the villages of the former municipality of Jegunovce have their own local waterworks, but due to the bad maintenance, bad water quality and the technical difficulties some of them still have problems with the water supply.

BOJ101At the beginning of 2007, the Association of Norwegian Municipalities (KS) with local support of the Macedonian Centre for International Cooperation started a project on developing a comprehensive sector plan on water supply of 12 villages in the former municipality of Jegunovce and Ozormište village in the municipality of Želino. Based on the sector plan, it was agreed KS in partnership with MCIC to take over full responsibility for realization of the program on water supply in Jegunovce municipality.

The overall objective of the project is to provide access to sufficient quantities of drinking water for the communities in Jegunovce village.

The project purpose is completed pre-project activities that will allow building of necessary infrastructure on water supply in Jegunovce municipality.

Results that are expected to be achieved by the Program are: developed main projects on water supply in Jegunovce municipality and construction of exploitation well to supply sufficient quantities of drinking water.

The target group is comprised of the residents of 11 villages from Jegunovce municipality (all villages of the former municipality of Jegunovce) and Ozormište village in the municipality of Želino. Direct beneficiaries of the program are 8,446 residents from 1,962 families from 12 villages.

The target area covers the territory of Jegunovce municipality, with focus on the villages of the former municipality of Jegunovce.

The project activities will include: testing the existing well in Jegunovce village; preparation of technical documentation for all pipelines – around 20 km (costs for local geodetic company); construction of research and exploitation well; preparation of technical documentation for reservoir and pumping station in Jegunovce and Siričino villages; preparation of technical documentation for buster  pumping station near Žilče village. Appropriate tendering procedures will be applied and contracts will be signed with the selected consultants.

Two consultants from Serbia will be directly involved in the project implementation in order to give advice on the preparation of technical documentation and to supervise the construction. The consultants will be directly hired by the KS and the budget for their fee is not planned in the budget for this project.

The assumptions affecting the realization of project objectives are: the beneficiaries will provide individual connections to the system, meaning that each family will give money for the individual connection.

Information on the project will be submitted to: the public via media and the publications of MCIC, Municipality of Jegunovce, Municipality of Želino, the 12 local neighborhood units and the Association of the Local Government Units (ZELS).

MCIC is responsible for the project implementation and decision making. The activity will be realized by a team comprised of MCIC’s staff in close cooperation with KS consultants. Active participation of the representatives from the Municipality of Jegunovce and the municipal communal enterprise is necessary.

MCIC will perform the monitoring of the project activities. An external consultant was hired to supervise the construction of the well.

The reporting will include organizational and project reporting.

Implementation period: January 12 – April 30, 2007.

Budget: 2,543,940 MKD. The funding is donation from the Association of Norwegian Municipalities (KS) (www.ks.com) provided from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
